my son is almost a year old and has been drinking out of a sippy cup for some time now...and I have also been giving him milk with his meals for a couple of weeks just so he could get used to the taste. My question is how do I substitute a bottle for a sippy? My ped said to do one bottle at a time for a week each...the thing is that my son wakes up at about 7am and I lay him on the floor and he drinks his bottle while watching a cartoon...I have tried giving him a sippy instead and he will not drink it, I have also tried putting him in his high chair in the morning to drink his milk and he wont do that either....So does anyone have any suggestions on how to get him to take the sippy in the morning? And I want to sub. the morning bottle first, then the afternoon one, then the night time bottle last.

  1. Just do it.

If he doesn't drink the milk when it comes in a cup in the morning, but he's happy to take it at mealtimes, then simply don't give him the bottle. He'll soon drink it from the cup when he's hungry and thirsty and he realises the bottle isn't happening.

  2. mix his milk half and half.  you can put cows milk in a bottle to start with just to get him use to the taste. Gradually decrease the amount of formula and increase the cows milk.  you may prefer to start at 3/4 formula and 1/4 cows milk.

after he is use to the taste and you have switched all his bottles from formula to cows milk then worry about getting him off the bottle.  he may just be resisting the sippys because they aren't a bottle.  you can mix all his bottles with cows milk and formula, just as long as its a gradual change over.
