Question:

How do I ween my son off his pacifier?

My son is 5mths old, and in the middle of the night he wakes up -- just for his soother. Its getting really draining because he will sometimes do this 4-5 times at night. I am almost 100% certain if I were able to get him to sleep without it he would sleep through the night.

Then I have the worry of him sucking his thumb.

The other reason I want to take the soother away is because my husband and I have to wrap his arms ("hog tie") so that he can't take the soother out, he just doesn't understand how to put it back in and gets really mad when he takes it out himself. I want my son to be put in the crib, tuck him in and for him to have his arms free but I can't have this when he is so attached to his soother.

  1. You could try cosleeping that would be easier.

  2. all my daughter did was take her sons pacifier away from him and didnt let him have it back..

yea he cried for it but she didnt give in...it took two days for him to stop wanting it..and he isnt sucking his thumb..

  3. Just take it away from him. Now.

You'll have a couple of rough nights, but then it will be over.

If he sucks his thumb, don't worry about it - at his age, it's fine.

    All the best.
