I have a really beautiful glass pipe that i love, but unfortunately does not pull well. I figured I would try to sand out the hole but I was told it would crack. What can I do?

  1. Sanding wont really do much as far as wideing the opening, it will just make the wall thinner. (if you sand it by hand, it shouldn't break, if using power tools, the edge might chip)  You can get a torch (propane torch, or torch tip and map gas, map gas burns much hotter than propane) and heat up the glass till it is an oragne/red color, and widen it with some sort of metal tool. (The trick is make sure to not pull the flame away too quickly,  if the glass cools to quickly, it will shatter, you want it to cool down slowly) Good Luck!!

  2. Well, best case scenario, take it to a professional. but since this is DIY.....  open flame. Use something to protect your hand, please (heat conducts through glass!!) slowly heat it and rotate it through the flame. use a metal or glass rod to slowly work the glass outward (in a swirling, pushing motion) until it is the size you want. then let it cool SLOWLY on a non-flammable benchtop for 12 hours or so. it should be ok to move in like 5, but please be careful! Dont put it water or it will shatter!

  3. you could heat up a rod really hot and try to  widen it wider hope that helps

  4. i don't know
