  2. Run out the remaining fuel, with extra 2-stroke oil.  Store in your climate controlled basement.

  3. Read the owners manual

  4. Put stableizer in the fuel, spray the fogging oil in the air intake by the carb, until the engine dies.  Disconnect the battery and your good to go.

  5. First add fuel conditioner to your fuel tank let it sit and mix while you do the following:

Change the lower unit oil (use the proper oil for your outboard)

Grease all fittings on the motor

Rock the boat back and forth a little to help the fuel conditioner mix with the fuel

Then run the motor (on a flusher attached to a hose NEVER RUN THE ENGINE WITHOUT WATER) for about 10-15 minutes to allow the conditioned fuel to get into the carbs

with the engine running spray fogging oil into the carbs, alternating between all the carbs (be careful not to kill the engine yet, it will not like to run with the fogging oil) until an extrmeley unusual amount of white smoke comes from the exhaust.  When it does this kill the engine by continuously spraying a large amount of  fogging oil into the carbs.

keep the motor down for about 1/2 hour to let the water drain out.

    That's it, pretty simple.

  6. There is all kinds of good advise around - all of it more or less expensive especially when a dealer does it.

I have two boats - one is an i/o the other a small Honda. the last couple of years i simply opened the petcocks on the i/o and let the water drain out with no ill effect.

the little Honda i store in an upright position so the water can drain out that's all . It hasn't been running for two years aND it ran fine after the 2nd pull .

the same goes for fuel conditioner i know from my own experience that gasoline is still useable after two years of storage .

It is advisable however that you spray some fogging oil or two cycle engine oil in to he carburetor while it is running at idle speed.

All in all i feel this winterizing thing is overrated slightly for obvious reasons.a dealer can ding you 3 - 5 hundred $ easily.

Finally loosen the oildrain s***w on your lower unit and check if there is water coming out - if so you must drain it and get it resealed asap.
