Question:

How do I wire 2 light switches in a double gang box to power 2 different lights from 1 feed?

My husband wants to know...I tell him to hire an electrician, but he likes to do things himself :)

  1. Hot wire (usually black)  to one side of each switch, separate wire (called a switch leg) for the other side of each switch to the each light. White (neutral wire) to each light as well as the ground (green wire).

    When working with the hot wire goes without saying have the power off.  You'll need to have a short pigtail from each switch wire-nutted to the hot wire.  


  2. That is so simple. If you don't know, don't do it yourself.

  3. jakeb is right. Take his advice.

  4. Bridge the power to the other switch.  Black wire (feed) attach two smaller black cables use wire nut to keep together.  That's it.
