I have a 230V, Single Phase, Dual Speed AO Smith Motor that I need to connect. I have four wires that need to be connected to HI, Com, Low and Ground. The wire colors are Red, Purple, Orange and Green. I know the Green goes to Ground. When I put my remote switch to "Low Flow " the voltage between Red and Purple is 240V and Red to Orange is 140V. When I put my remote switch to "High Flow" the voltage bewteen Red and Purple is 140V and bewteen Red and Orange it is 240V. Is that enought infomation to determine the Com, Hi and Low connections? One last piece of information - When the switch is off Red to Purple is 115V, Red to Orange is 115V, and Orange to Purple is 0V.

  1. Your common is one leg of 120 v supply.

    The green is ground.

The other leg switches between the high speed and low speed windings in the motor.

It sounds like red is your common and orange and purple are your hi/lo switch legs.

The supply to the motor should always be 240.

  3. water and electric are not the best partners get a qualified electrition, might cost a bit more but better to be safe than sorry
