How do I work in a girls group home?

I lived in one when I was young, and I think I can do a better job for the girls. How do I find employment as a caretaker in a group home?

Although requirements can vary, generally you can expect that you will require at least either a social work degree, or a youth and care worker certificate.

Most places will also require you to have a current cpr, a suicide intervention and a criminal record check.

Most often the people that do best at this job & really take it to heart are the ones that were in care themselves as children

Look at your states employment website there are state listings on there. They also list some of them on your city (or county) website. Under the employment. Or you can look up the specific name of the place & if they have a website the hiring information will normally be on there.

That is wonderful that you want to work in one!

The best thing to do is apply directly at one.  If you are a Christian, the Children's Home of Lubbock would probably hire you.  Here's their website:

Click on "jobs". Just warning you pay is kinda low though.  You do not need to have a college degree - high school diploma is fine.

There are lots of other group homes that you could apply to work at.

You can contact the girls home directly. Just do a search on the internet for your area. They are ALWAYS looking for good people, especially if you are willing to start out on the night shift.   If there are no current openings most would be open to having you volunteer.  The turnover is high at these type of agencies so you would be first in line for any position that comes up.

If you have experience as a resident and have a heart for these girls you would be a "catch" for any agency.  Good Luck.  I hope you find something.
