havent been accepted to a nursing program yet. I havent even applied because I need to take some pre-requisites( in Jan. 2009 I will start classes) before I apply to the Nursing program. I want to work in a hospital while Im earning my pre-requisites for an ADN. How do I get a job at a hospital? I abhor my waitressing job and want to get my foot in the door at a hospital ASAP. Any info or advice would be wonderful!

  1. Be a tech partner. It's alot of helping the Rn's (doing work they don't want to) but you will almost have a definate position when your done with school.

  2. Start applying at local hospitals there are plenty of entry level positions there. If you have clerical skills you can apply for a unit clerk position. Check out the qualifications on hospital sites in your area. I am planning to start taking my pre req in jan also good luck!

  3. As a waitress, you already have a number of skills that will cross over to health care.  There are a number of positions in your typical health care system that do not require nursing experience - you may be able to obtain a tech position right away.

The biggest advantage of this - you will learn whether the field is right for you.  The great thing about nursing, is there are so many branches of it.  I work on a helicopter EMS service, but I have also worked in the ER and ICU.
