  1. i am a backup setter for my school team

set with a basketball so it can help u with pushing the ball up and controll the ball

  2. there are intricate ways of working on setting but the best one that professionals do alllll the time and seriously seriously works is just to stand or sit on your couch while watching tv and set to yourself.........over and over and over until you cant do it no more lol.....good luck!

  3. Best thing to do:

Set a laundry basket about six feet from where you are sitting.  Sit "indian style" in a spot.  Take a volleyball, toss it up, and then set it into the laundry basket.  Do this over and over again - you will not only work on your setting form, but you will also work on your setting accuracy and placement.

You can also do this outside standing, using a large garbage can.

Another drill you can do at home is lay down on your bed and set the ball over your face repeatedly.  This will allow you to see your hands contacting the ball, and watch your form.  But the laundry basket drill is my favorite.

    Good luck!!

  4. Ok..my coach just taught me yeasterday...through the ball up.

and whn it comes make a triagular shape with you hand...don't let your finger touchbut match the thumbs and the pointer but don't let them touch..you should see triangle type...hold you finger(all of them)and when the ball comes near you set..ONLY USE YOUR FINGER TP PADS!!!..niothing else!!.i play volleyball..so i know!

any more advice IM or EMAIL me at omg.its_nicole@yahoo.com!!

  5. first catch the ball at your forehead and then try setting.

  6. Start with the ball in your lap. Grasp the ball and roll it upwards till it is above your head. Then, throw it softly, or just so you can catch it again.  This works LIKE A CHARM. I swear, I used to be really c**p at sets, but now I'm mega good.

  7. 1. lie on you back with the ball above your head and set the ball and catch it. this will teach you to controll your sets and will help build up strength in your arms. 2. Set the ball against a wall but e sure to aim for specific points to practice setting to a target 3. buy a setters ball to practice with. they are a little expensive but they are so helpful and so worth it

  8. yeah yeah yeah.. all those other responses boil down to one thing... practice. Yes, you need to try to get as many practice sets as you can.. to yourself, against a wall.. whatever.. just get touches and get a lot of them (well, just once per set!) =]

The most important thing in setting is not actually your hands.. it's your feet. Get your legs in shape! You need to get yourself to the spot of the ball as fast as possible, get squared up, and stop your momentum. Get there early, stop, and now, you have an easy set in front of you. You'll see.. if you get to the spot early, the set is so much easier.

  9. before you go to bed, take a volleyball into your room and lie on your bed. keep your hands up and practice pushing the ball while ling down. it will strengthen your fingers and help your setting posture.

  10. this is what i did for setting if u lay on the ground and through a volleyball up and down it works......it helped me alot u should try it.....good luck

  11. my coach told me to put the volleyball in ur hands and hold the volleyball about 5 inches away from the wall put ur hands about ur head like ur going to set but keep the volleyball really close the the wall and just set it for about 5 min it will hurt if ur not used to it but trust me it helped me so much

  12. What u need to do i practice with ur volleyball with a friend setting back and forth.  We did this at my practice and it helped.  Curl ur fingers a little and just flick them at the ball when it comes back to u.  It works so, good luck.

  13. I bet you didn't practice volleyball like you used too. That happened to me on my serve too. I don't really care, cause I got it back even when I broke my ankle.ok... back to setting.

    1. pretend you are drinking out of a 300 liter bottle of you're fav. drink. and then, pop you're hands up on a volleyball. that's sort of a set, that's how I did it.

  14. I say just practice your basics of setting. Try finding somewhere that you can practice with a net, and pretty much have at it. Work on your placement and hight. Really what's important is ball control. You'll find out soon enough as a setter that knowing your hitters is very important. Not all hitters like thier sets high outside or whatever. Work out your basics then work on the chemistry with your hitters.
