Question:

How do I work out what size seat post clamp I will need for my mountain bike?

I've lost my quick release clamp for the saddle post of my mountain bike and I want to buy a new one online but the website I was on gave me this warning:

"Varying Clamp Sizes

Be aware that there are many variations in the size of the frame seat tubes. This means that clamps can come in many different sizes. Make sure that you know exactly what size of clamp you need before ordering"

How do I know?

  1. have a look at your seat post, the bit that the seat is attatched to, just below the marks that say how high it should go there wil be a number like 25.4, 27.3 etc, this is the size that you need to get your clamp!!

  2. measure your leg hip to foot then give the measurement to website.

  3. Measure the diameter of the frame with a digital calliper

( Don't measure the seat post as obviously this will be smaller as the seat post fits inside the frame )

There are lots of different sizes and some are close to the next size so make sure you measure it accurately.

See this link for common sizes

  4. buy from your local bike shop, take your bike (or just the seat post) with you and they will make sure you get the right size.
