  1. I would go to a store that sells them and talk to the people there. We have a 20 by 28 foot great room and our wood burning stove is a fairly good sized one, about 2 feet across, deep and tall. That's just an estimate of the size. It works great to heat this room up, plus some of the other rooms in the house. We found that adding a fan to the back of it really helps spread the heat. Sorry I can't be of more help.

  2. We have a 8kw in a 30 x 11 through lounge and the kids moan it's too hot in the winter :)

Check your building regs if in the UK you may need to put in extra ventilation over 5kw ?

    Hope this helps

  3. If you want to be reasonably accurate you need to calculate the heat loss from the room in BTUs or Watts. Wickes website has a calculator as far as I can remember. There will be other sites if you search the terms. Go over by at least 10% on the stove or it will take too long to acheive the required temp.

  4. Most appliances will have a retaed output in kilowatts.

You need to determine how many killowatts you need to heat your room.

If you measure the length by width of the room in meters and multiply them to give you your floor area in square meters and then multiply by 100 (ie 100 watts per square meter) to give you a rough idea of output you need to get.

    Eg room measuring (4m x 3m = 12m square) x 100 = 120 watts or 1.2 kilowatts.

100 watts per square will give you a near heat loss calc for the average house. if it has really high ceilings or lots of glass or lots of draughts you would need to increase that factor to maybe 120 or 130 watts per square meter.

However unless you live in a casdtle or such like, most woodbuners would give out more than enough to heat the average through lounge without any problems.

Hope that makes sense & hope that it helps you.
