How do I work this?? ?

We use Mozilla Firefox for our internet. We need help on learning how to update it. I am taking online college courses, and one course won't let me open it til we update our internet to 5.5 or greater (?) we're not really computer savy so please help asap! Thanks!

But to update only Firefox you must go to:

First of all, asking to update to '5.5' or similar is usually asking you to update internet explorer to that version as mozilla firefox is only up to version 3.

But here is what to do:

First we will update mozilla firefox;

1. Go to this website http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/

2. You will see two icons with 'firefox 3 free download' on them. One is the US version, the other is the British. Which one you pick does not really matter

3. Left click on one of these icons

4. Click 'run' when a download dialog appears and follow the steps through the installer when it is downloaded.

Now try to open the course again. I have a feeling it might still give you the same error message. If so we are going to have to install/update internet explorer so follow these steps;

1. Go to this website http://www.microsoft.com/windows/downloa...

2. Down the bottom there are two text entry boxes with the word 'go' to the right of them. On the left one select from the drop down menu your operating system (e.g. Windows XP) and click 'go'

3. On the next page there is a button that says 'download'

4. Click this button, click run and do the same as with mozilla download/install

Note: There is a chance that internet explorer 7 will not run on your computer if you cannot find your operating system in that drop down menu.

If this is the case. Open any type of internet explorer you do have on your computer and in a tools menu there be a 'windows update' option. Try this. If that does not work go here: http://www.windowsupdate.microsoft.com.  If after all this you still cannot access the course send an email to technical support or similar at the online college with the exact error message and see if they can help
