How do Internet adverts know where I'm from?

I went on a few websites today and on the adverts it says stuff like 'male escorts in ****' the stars are my town so not going to tell you, and it said it again on another website how!!!!? does it know?

  1. From your IP address.  Some of those algorithms get very close, others are off by miles.  And the topography of your provider's LAN affects the accuracy.
