  1. I know that the jockey I was engaged to, while he had his bug ate better then when he lost it.  After that it was light meals,...lot's of light snacks...and pleanty of time in the hot box if he needed it.

Sorry to say tho that isn't always the way of it.

  2. Jockeys primarily use the aforementioned unhealthy habits.

  3. They eat Keebler crackers.

  4. In all honesty most jockeys don't stick to a diet as such - they just simply don't eat a lot.

It is one of the failings in our sport that we do not have nutritionists on hand to help jockeys to find the right diet for themselves - yes some top jockeys will go out and hire a nutritionist, but this is a luxury that apprentices and every day jockeys cannot afford.

The key is to maintain a steady weight, crash dieting will not help in the long run.

A lot of jockeys will lose the extra few lbs by using a sauna or by going for a run in a sweat suit, so that they sweat the weight off.

  5. I have to agree with Newmarketsalsa.  Most jockeys either don't eat hardly anything at all or resort to unhealthy habits such as flipping, taking lasix, etc.  I do however notice that some jockeys just eating salads, fresh vegetables, fresh fruit, and nothing else.    Otherwise they spend long hours in the sweat box sweating it off.  You might try the vegetarian thing and try exercising (running, walking, etc.) regularly.

  6. I resorted to unhealthy habits ! My pal used to run wearing a special suit that made him sweat. If I was still racing I would be a vegetarian !
