Americans tend to pronounce it 'Saskatchewahhhn"

It seems like people in Saskatchewan and Brent on Corner Gas pronounces it "Saskatchewin" the 'win' part really short.

Winnipeg Canadians pronounce more like "Winnipaig"

And Toronto is pronounced "Toronto" everywhere except in Toronto where it's pronounced "Toronno"?

Correct if I'm wrong on these?

  1. Haha, that's actually so hiliarious and so true.

I'm a native Calgarian and I pronounce it like 'Cal'gry' whereas you can always tell when someone has just moved to the city or is visiting because they say it like 'Cal-gary'.

Also, I'd only ever heard Toronto as being pronounced 'Toh-ron-toh' whereas when I actually went there, people said it as "Tronno" or "Tranna"

We seem to get lazy with the pronunciations of our own areas I guess, eh?

  2. Yes on all counts, and people from Calgary say it like Calgry. The newscasters say it as NewfoundLAND and LabraDOR. I think. It's easy to say but I find it hard to write it like they say it.

And Regina--saw a comedy thing once where someone said "no, you fool, I said REgina."
