How do Poll's Poll the people?

i was just wondering how they get the statistics in the polls that are so often quoted. They keep saying mccain and obama are in dead heat from these polls, but I never was contacted by them so how do they come up with their numbers?

I wonder the same thing.  A lot of people have asked me this question also.  The fact is, they can't even poll people with cell phones.  Only people with landlines get polled, which usually are the elderly.
