How do RAJAR work out their audience figures?

Do they literally go round to people's houses asking them if they listened?

  1. i can imagine they estimate their figures on the signal that is sucked up by receivers. the more signal is sucked up at the receiver end the more the signal from the transmitter has to be strentghened to make up for this 'suction'

    that make sense?

    i guess it's the same for tv too.

    so how they work out audience figures is really misleading cos all they can workout is the number of receivers that receive transmission but that DOES NOT mean that every receiver is being listened or looked at

    audience figures are just an assumption that people listen or watch tv/radio when it's switched on.

    i go round lots of people's houses and many people have the tv/radio on and do not listen to it at all cos they're doing other things and are not even in the same room as the receiver
