How do YOU pronounce the name Clara?

I think that the name Clara is really lovely. However, I'm a bit confused about how to pronounce it.

Most people I know pronounce the name like Lara, Tara and Zara, but with the 'cl' sound at the beginning. But many people online tell me that is is pronounced like Sarah, but with the 'cl' sound.

Are these both correct ways of pronouncing this name? How do *you* say the name Clara?

I've never heard it pronounced to rhyme with Sarah.

Then again, I'm in the UK, and I'd never heard Ian pronounced "iron" either until I heard it on US TV!

I think the pronunciation varies depending on where you live.

My friends in North America say "Claire-ah" to rhyme with Sarah.

My European friends usually pronounce it "Klah-rah" more like Lara. ;)

Both ways ARE correct pronunciation, but I normally go with the "Tara" way of saying it

I would say Claire-ah. Like Sarah with a CL. I have NEVER heard it said Clah-ra.

Claire-rah, most commonly I think. I'd probably say it like Clark - without the k of course!

I say Lara like Laura-- at least I used to know a girl named that and that's how she said it.

I would definitely pronounce it like Lara with a C sound on it

Kind of like the name Chloe or Cloe.

I would hate to see it pronounced the other way - it would sound hideous.

In the movie "Heidi" - her friend Clara is pronounced the way I would pronounce it
