How do YOU recycle your magazines?

I take them to the hospital's waiting room, to doctor's offices, and to the local literacy center. What do you do with yours? I'm always looking for new ideas!

  1. Try sending them to Kindergarten Teachers, Pre-school, etc. My friend has made her children a "Boredom Box". When they are bored, they open  the box to find old magazines that they can cut pictures out of, and make things with. It keeps them busy, and happy.

  2. A variety of ways:

Use them for kids' craft and educational projects.

Donate them to the local library (which sells them at a minimal cost to raise money for the library).

Donate to schools and daycares to be used in the classroom.

Bring them to homeschool support group meetings for others to take and read (and use in educational projects).

Offer them on the local Freecycle (tm) group to anyone who's interested in them.  (see http://www.freecycle.org )

Put them in the curbside recycling bins.

  3. We have curbside recycling here.  Newspapers, magazines, junk mail, cardboard, cans, bottles, yard waste, etc.

Have you considering encouraging your city of start a similar program?  Ours claims last year they saved over $300,000 in garbage fees by utilizing curbside recycling.

Btw, have you considered donating them to a local homeless shelter?  Most of the residents can't afford to buy magazines.  Or a senior centers?  Many seniors are on such limited budgets they also cannot afford them.  Or, try any nursing home.  The residents love reading magazines.

  4. I take them to my kids school or kinder and they cut pictures out of them. When they are finished with them they put them in the recycle bins.
