Many times people think they have a virus when all they have is a poorly maintained system.  To begin with, why would you think you have a virus?  If you have symptoms other than just running slowly (usually caused by ad-ware), like an unusual amount of pop-ups or things of that nature, then maybe you do.  If that is the case, I recommend the freeware anti-virus AVG by Grisoft - my personal favorite.  Begin by cleaning up the system using something like CCleaner (also free and easily obtained at filehippo.com).  Then defrag - my preference is defraggler from www.defraggler.com.  Once you've done that, install AVG unless you already have a preferred anti-virus.  Finally scan the system and see what happens.  You may also want to download the anti adware product ad-aware from filehippo too.  Spybot is also a good one.  If you find a virus you can't get rid of, reboot into "Safe Mode" and try the scan again.  Good Luck!
