  1. Actors cry on cheesy moments right? But in there minds it is not cheesy, they think of it differently. So just think of a pet or a family member or anyone else you love dying. That is how i do it.

  2. Well,

When I'M doing shows ( and forsted to cry) it's not always easy to think of someone dying or that stuff, it helps to look into the lights , or not blink for a while...

    atleast that wourks for me

  3. I can usually get myself to tear up by reacting like I'm crying - catch in my voice, blinking rapidly, etc. - on the stage, the audience can't tell if there are physical tears on your cheeks or not, and won't try, as long as you make it look real.

However, my director advised squishing a piece of onion right before you go on and rubbing your eyes - stings like a mother, but it's subtle and effective.

  4. Well, I'm a young actress (I'm only 12). I go to an arts school in Denver, Colorado. I major in theater.

I have been in many shows where I am forced to cry by will.

One of the things that I do, is I imagine myself in that situation, as if it were real. I do an "internal monologue" which is what the character would be saying in her head if she was able to speak it out loud. This is great character work, and will usually get me caught up in the moment. Then, I start to 'become' the person, rather than just 'act' the character.

But this doesn't work for everyone.

Sometimes, when I am in a show for a loooong time, with lots and lots of performances, I think of horrific things. Like if my mom just called and told me that my dog was hit by a car, or my boyfriend wrote me a horrible email breaking up with me, and so on. I know that it sounds gruesome, but when you're on stage, and those lights are on you, you can believe anything!!

    Hope I help!

  5. they are called actors for a reason! they can really get in toach with their emotions and if u cant do it, ur not a real actor. The fake ones use tricks like putting vix under their eyes which makes their eys tear.

  6. If you are really connected to your character and situation and moment, tears really will flow naturally and you will lose some of yourself and react the same way your character would.  these moments are very special and what makes good acting so amazing.

however there are these drops they use on film/tv sets in some cases to produce tears. :)

  7. i can do it by will

    and it IS crazy...

  8. It is my understanding that an actor either:

Look into the stage lights for a long time. I don't know if you've ever been on a professional stage during a performance, but the lights are extremely bright.

    And/Or

    Eyedrops/Sad Memories

  9. Technique, control and practise. But one thing I learned is that it's not necessary to cry, only LOOK as though you are crying. IF you are a really good actor, it will be your audience crying because of your performance and emotion you generated in them, rather than in you.

  10. There comes more to being a good actor than meets the eye. The actor has to put themselves into the role and essentially take on the persona of a completely different person so in order for them to cry they would have to make themselves feel what their character is feeling and allow for that raw emotion to come out.
