  1. Well, neither generates energy.  You can't make energy, you can only change its form.

    But, aerobic bacteria use cellular respiration to convert energy stored in chemical bonds of larger molecules to stored chemical energy in ATP.  While they don't have mitochondria, they can use their own cell membrane for generating an electron gradient.  Anaerobic bacteria, however, can use fermentation or can be chemoautotrophic where they use molecules other than oxygen (like methane, hydrogen sulfide) as electron acceptors for ATP generation.
