  1. The amoeba extends projections of its membrane called pseudopodia. These engulf its food and they are taken into the cell in a vacuole. This process is called phagocytosis.(Meaning "cell eating"). Oxygen enters the cell and carbon dioxide leave by diffusion.

    the amoeba can move in any direction by this means, and is therefore continually changing shape. the amoeboid movement is one of the most primitive types of animal locomotion.
