  4. I am going to plant perennial flowers instead of grass at my girlfriend's house so that we have a small patch of grass that we will actually have to mow.  I will also attempt to grow some food items in a small garden in the back yard.

  5. I am getting rid of my car

I save my bath and shower water for washing our clothes in, then use the water for mopping the floors and then put it on the garden.

We avoid supermarkets and buy food from local suppliers, organic and seasonal where we can.

    We harvest rainwater.

I am planning a grey water reed bed system in my back garden.

I have planted fruit trees and bushes and nut trees. I am keeping to native plants as much as i can.

    I dont use noxious chemicals.

We use soap that is hand made by my herbalist friend, Clear Spring Washing up liquid, Vinegar, borax and soda crystals as cleaning products.

    I dont buy coffee.

I use all paper and card that comes into the house for mulching in my garden.

All that can be composted goes into the compost heap - made out of old tyres stacked on top of each other.

I am going to build a compost toilet in the garden.

I have low energy bulbs in the house.

    I have a solar torch.

I dont buy anything that requires replaceable batteries (some things have come into the house via other people though)

I am planting up my whole front garden with herbs and flowers and a boggy pond area.

I hope to grow my own veg too.

I buy or accept all our clothes 2nd hand and very occasionally buy new fair trade clothes (but that is rare)

Im desperately seeking a treadle sewing machine so i can make our own clothes.

I also want to revamp my broken washing machine into a pedal powered one as i have to say hand washing with 2 young children is exhausting!

I am continually reviewing what we use and reducing what we use. We are down to about £5.00 a week in electric during this winter, im expecting it to go down in the summer.

I want to find a way of storing rainwater and diverting it into my home.

I use 99.9% of the time homeopathy and herbs instead of allopathic medicine.

Im looking to make more and more of what we need and become more and more self sufficient.

    I use permaculture techniques.

Long term i would like to build an energy efficient, low impact dwelling, out of tyres and cob, off the grid, harvesting all my water from the rain and solar power and wind power for any electrical needs ( computer if i choose to keep it, and lighting), compost loo, possibly a well for drinking water, growing and making my own from the land i live on.

And complete my training as a homeopath to support any financial needs.

I buy ethical products from an eco shop in Glastonbury, where the fantastic proprieter Amy checks out her suppliers thoroughly and challenges any aspects she isnt satisfied with.

  6. I recycle inkjet cartridges and cellular phones with Planet Green. I keep these things out of landfills and I get paid for them.

  7. Use cloth shopping bags

If sitting down to eat at a fast food restaurant, don't use a lid or straw with the drink (assuming the place is actually clean...otherwise, I probably would use a straw but not a lid)

Turn off the computer and other electronics at night

Unplug electronics like the tv when not in use

Use your own travel mug when buying coffee from fast food places or gas stations
