Question:

How do arrange interviews with indie artists ?

I'm launching an online music mag, and want to interview indie musicians and get music for future podcasts. I'm doing this to help promote the genre and want to be taken seriously, not viewed as a scammer. What's the best way to reach as many as possible? I thought about mass emailing, but thought that might be considered spamming.

  1. Go to their websites/myspaces and hit the contact button.  I would recommend having a general email ready that you can copy and paste (rather than rewriting it every time) but also make sure to take a couple minutes to personalize it to what you like about them, and why you want to interview them.  Tell them something you like about their sound and make sure to point it out strongly.  That way they won't see it as a mass email and realize you do like them, and took the time to listen to their music.

p.s. make sure you explain what you're doing (with the zine and podcasts) and if it is already up and running be sure to include a link.
