Remember that beggars weren't always beggars- thus, they likely had that guitar before their luck went south and drove them into destitution. So, to answer your question- they bought their instruments before they became "beggars".

they save there money for there purchuse like you or I , used to beg or con people but it got to me so I started a bussiness
