If a boxer gets cut in the forehead, and the blood drips into his eyes, is this good? I can't think of it being a good thing for blood getting in one's eyes.

  1. i think they stop the fight if this happens...pretty sure they do.  If they can't stop the blood the fight will be stopped.

  2. They do take breaks in matches and towel off.

Boxers just have to put up with it if they start bleeding, I'm sure it stings a bit, but they probably don't pay attention to it.

  3. Read below. No they usually stop the bleeding at the end of the round. By putting stuff over it.

  4. Assuming the cutman has already tried everything to close-up the wound like vaseline and the blood is still pouring:

    - Some boxers can lean their head forwards, backwards, or to one side so that the blood streams down their head away from the eye

    - Other boxers will keep pawing at the blood to make it smear and pour down around the sides instead of straight into the eye.

    - some boxers just close that one eye (easy to do if it's just the back eye that's covered in blood)

    - some will just blink

    - others will use their survival instincts to fight blind.

All in all, getting blood in the eyes is a very common feeling because there's something much worse that commonly happens in training - getting SWEAT in the eyes. Sweat in my eyes stings so bad, it's like someone pouring salt or something painful into my eye. I'd rather have blood in my eye than sweat - seriously.

  5. It depends on the size of the cut.  Usually if it is on the forehead they will let the fight continue, and control the cut during rounds with vaseline.  As far as handling the blood in their eyes, they just ignore it and keep swinging.  Obviously if the cut is too bad, and seriously effecting the fighter vision, the fight will be stopped.  However, if it is a championship fight, the referee may allow the fight to continue with a lot of blood flowing in the eyes.  This is normal in boxing.  That is why they are called fighters.
