How do boxers keep their belt?

What if a world champion boxer loses his title match and he needs to hand over his belt, well wat if his belt was all ruined and stuff, does the boxing committee like protect the rights of the belt holder?

  3. If they do "hand over" their belt to the new champ. . it's only for press and picture-hounds.  That belt still "belongs" to the former champ. . . forever destined to grace his wall or fireplace mantel.  

    Multi-champs always get to keep their belts. . .Roy holds no real "active" title right now. . .but his house is literally FULL of belts. . . .at least 10 different ones from various weights and affiliations.

  5. As far as i know they dont hand over the belt anyway. A new belts on offer for each title fight but it isnt handed out if the champ retains his title, this way when a champs reign is over he still has his belt as recognition for being the title holder. Im not sure if this goes for some of the alphabet titles but it definitely happens with the major organisations.
