How do boxers not loose muscle or that much by running 5 miles a day?

  1. Lifting weights will build muscles, running helps to build stamina. You should lift weights every other day, so that your muscles have a day to mend. Lifting weights actually tears your muscles and need a day to mend, which makes them bigger. Then run on the days you don't lift weights. You will need to eat a well balance diet high in proteins and carbs. Drink plenty of water or Gatorade, and get plenty of rest. Good Luck

First of all, most boxers are not huge.  A good boxers build actually tends to be on the skinnier side.  Running, however, will not make you lose muscle.  It will make you burn fat, which is a good thing.  All the punches that boxers throw during training end up being equivalent to a lot of reps of light weight and this can do wonders for muscle volume and appearance.

    You don't have to lift every other day in order for muscles to mend themselves.  Muscles need 2-3 days rest to recover from the workout you put them through.  If you do chest and back on day 1, then biceps, triceps, and forearms on day 2, then shoulders on day 3, and then legs on day 4...then you could lift for 4 consecutive days, then rest on day 5 and also on day 6 if you wanted extra rest.  Then, when you start with day 1 again, your chest and back will have had more than the requisite 2-3 days' rest.

    Also, Gatorade is unhealthy.  It contains a lot of sodium, sugar, and high fructose corn syrup.  A good piece of advice is to read the ingredients list and avoid anything that has HFCS or PHVO.

    HFCS = high fructose corn syrup.

    PHVO = partially hydrogenated vegetable oil.

    They could run farther than 5 miles and not lose any weight if they eat enough.
