They purchase products to run their business, and the business produces products as an end result.  For a manufacturer, they would purchase raw materials and sell finished products.  And a barber shop purchases shampoo and scissors and sprays and combs and other things, and it produces and sells haircuts.

    So a business conbines source materials (which it purchases), and uses those materials to produce new goods and/or services.
