Question:

How do car cylinders work?

I know cars can have 4 cylinder...6 cylinder...even 8 cylinder, but i don't really know what it means. I even hear cars like the Bugatti Veyron have 16 cylinders. I know it has something to do with the engine and the type of car and performance it provides, but i would like a further explanation.

  1. Lover not fighter pretty much gave it to you with "howstuffworks"

    But i'll just explain it any way, Cylinders are pretty much what powers the car with the Pistons.  They are a way to compress the air and gas using the spark plug it explodes and movers the piston down which it pumps. Way too much to explain jus check out How stuff works on the net


  2. Each cylinder is "combustion chamber".  That's where the gasoline is burned.  The hot gases expand and presses down on the crank shaft exactly like the way your legs press down on the bicycle pedal.  See this link for more info on cars:
