How do change my sons last name?

Well i was 17 when i had my child and ofcorse i thought me and my ex would be togeather forever. Now i want to change his name witch is (gooch) yeah i know horrible right? And i know that the dad would never let me change it he was so excited that his last name would be gooch. Even tho his whole life that is why he got made fun of.. So i am wondering is there anyway i cant get his lastname changed and not have to have a signature from his father?

  1. No.  Only if the father gives up parental rights.

    I am curious why the last name didn't bother you when you were making this baby, but it bothers you now.

  3. In most states, the other parent must be informed of the change and agree to it, or challenge it in court.

  4. No, his father has to agree to the change for you to change his last name. Sorry.

  5. you could probably go to the court house or social security office and talk to them about it
