sell any type of knife. You can go into a supermarket and they are on open display for all to handle and buy. Crazy!

  1. I have heard that shops do have a policy against selling children knives. Maybe they got an adult to buy the knives for  them.

  2. A kid can get a knife from the kitchen.

There is a law against selling knives to people under the age of 18.  Whether the shops are following the law is another question, and if they are they should be prosecuted and fined and shamed.  Because it is very likely they have blood on their hands.

  3. I have (only) a little problem with what you say.

Of course it is alarming that kids as young as 8 can easily get hold of knives and, as you also say, they are being openly sold in supermarkets and other family stores.  The problem is that  knives are part of our lives. They are essential utensils in the kitchen, for example and no one would seriously expect mum to lock the knives away at night so her kids won't take them to school in the morning. The solution has to be education, attitudes have to change.  Films from Hollywood should concentrate more on the intellectual entertainment value of movies rather than focusing on s*x, violence and gore.  That sort of thing.  At the moment, as things stand, Hollywood movies and other TV entertainment continuously spew out that violent garbage and governments are then expected to chase after them and solve the problem. --We have to grab the bull by the horns and not by the tail.

On the other hand, I agree, certain types of knives (hunting knives and knives clearly manufactured for combat) should be sold only if the adult can justify its ownership.  I have no use at all, for example, for a flick knife or even a knuckle-duster.  So, for those types of knives, yes, we do need very, very strict controls.

  4. Are you really that naive?  Do you live a sheltered life?

They get them out of dad's tool box, the kitchen drawer, an older sibling or friend or lo and behold, around isle 22 in your local Asda.

  5. Crazy, the eight year old child should  be punish by law enforcement, or else he might kill someone!!!!

  6. In the uk its actually against the law for anyone under the age of 16 to buy anything that can be classed as having a blade.

This law has been in place for a very long time now, remember they dont HAVE to buy the knife when they can just steal it instead, or take one from their house, steal from relative, etc.

  7. how do 8 year olds get knives? They go into the kitchen and take one out the drawer. Seriously, a load of these kids (and i know a few people - not 8 year olds - who walk around with knives) don't BUY them, they take them from home or somewhere where they don't have to pay/ need ID or whatever.

  8. This is, as you say, CRAZY!!!

I have to say  --- and I know it has been said umpteen times before this.

What are the parents doing allowing their little children to carry knives and other weapons?

What are they doing allowing their little children into an environment where they feel so threatened?

It has got to be the responsibility of the parents to get this stopped.   These kids must be getting the knives from home, or from another child.

If my children were involved with this situation I would move heaven and earth to get it sorted out, once and for all.

If it is inside the schools, then any caring parent should be at the school demanding that searches be made before allowing their child to go inside unprotected from whatever threats were there waiting for them.

No matter how 'tough' these schools are said to be, where there is a will, there is a way, and one must be found to deal with this very serious problem.  Is it another example of political correctness gone mad, where the real perpetrators cannot be dealt with because they have some kind of 'human' rights?

  9. most family kitchens have a large supply of knives on hand for any would be criminal, whatever their age

  10. How - they are freely available in most kitchens (try the cutlery drawer) and quite often on dinner tables around dinner time.

You can go too far in the whole banning things malarky !  Try taking normal precautions.

  11. I had a collection of knives when I was a sprog. All very innocent and Enid Blighton, it was just one of the things a young boy was supposed to have in his pocket, along with a conker or two, a snotty handkerchief, a pencil snub and the odd frog! Of course, the knife had to have a thing for taking stones out of horses hooves!

What I am saying is that I don't think it is the availability of knives that is the problem, it's the mindset of the kids who carry them.
