Question:

How do chiropractors work?

I know what they do, but how do their office visits work? I have a friend who started going to the chiropractor and she told me that the doctor gave her a package (x amount of visits) for a set $ amount for her "condition", which is asthma. If I want to see a chiropractor, how can he tell I will need 10 visits for something? I am considering going to one, but don't want to get scammed.

  1. I don't have any idea about your problem. However, I came across a blog about Asthma. Hope you find your answer there.

  2. My chiropractor charges per visit.  At first, I went three times a week.  Then when I felt better, I just went once a month.  I also get therapy every time I go.  I get a pretty sweet deal since I'm friends with his wife.  Good luck!

  3. They do things to your back that make you feel good for the short term, then in the long term you end up coming back again and again for more short term solutions.

  4. My first suggestion is to get some referrals from people you trust that have been seeing a given chiropractor for a while and have had good effects. That should help to keep you from getting scammed.

Each chiropractic office will have their own policies and procedures. Some do package deals like with your friend (see you X times for X amount), some work on whatever needs to be worked on each visit (on an as-needed basis, charging each time you come), some make a goal and work towards that as they see you (plan X times per week, then as needed, charging each time you come)... you'd have to ask the office you want to go to how they work their treatments like that.

That being said, I've never been to a doctor that charged a bulk fee at the beginning that covered treatment of an ailment... I don't think I could trust that. Most good Chiropractors should charge on a per-time basis and if you come in with a specific ailment, they should have a regimen to start with. Good luck!

  5. I go for my back, and it works for me. He manipulates my spine. A physician assistant friend once told me that they work much like physical therapists.
