How do class waitlists work?

im on the waitlist for one of my classes how do they work? like do i show up at day or what??

I would go ahead and show up the first day of class.  Usually teachers will give preference to students on the wait list that make the effort to be there even though they aren't officially enrolled in the course yet.  Other than that, whether or not you are about to ad the course depends on several factors.  The 2 key factors are 1) did anyone already enrolled not show up, and 2) is the teacher comfortable having more than the maximum number of students in class.
