  1. Being rebellious as Rodger suggests would be counter productive to your efforts. Your parents may decide that public school may be good for you if you show maturity. Listen to the reasons why they choose to home school. Present your arguments in a clear concise way. Talk to them about the things that happen in High school that you would like to be involved in. Things like sports and clubs that aren't open to home schoolers. You also need to show maturity if you get your way. Your parents may decide to let you try it but with conditions. Things like your grades must stay at an acceptable level, and you can not misbehave.

  2. It is your parents' decision/responsibility to educate you. Public school is a good fail-safe. You need to have a discussion with them if you would like to try public school. WHY the family chooses to educate children at hope is unique to each family.  List your reasons why you want to try Public school and set an appointment to discuss the issue. I hope it works out well for you!

  3. Think about the reasons you want to go to public school.  Write them down and have an honest conversation with your parents about it.

Ask them about there concerns and find ways to address them.  Make sure you show yourself to be respectful and responsible.  Ask for a trial period and make sure you know their expectations and that you go above and beyond to meet them.

If your parents decide that they will not send you to public school or even let you try it, make the most of homeschooling.  Think about the parts that aren't serving you well, and do what you can to make changes.

Consider joining a co-op or finding other activities.  Here are some suggestions:

If your parents don't allow you to go to high school this first year, but you remain hardworking and responsible, they may be willing to reexamine their decision or let you try taking classes at a community college

Just a warning - no matter what happens, pitching a fit or acting disrespectful won't get you anywhere.  Be mature about it!

    Good luck!

  4. First you have to be mature about it.  Listen to what your parent's reasons are for keeping you home schooled.  Make sure you know what your reasons are for wanting to go to public school.  Ultimately it is your parent's decision, and you have to be mature enough to abide by whatever they decide.

  5. i just graduated from high school, it was a good and bad experience, but it was one that you can never have again. you meet so many people and learn so much from those people that it's definitely something worth going through. just tell your parrents that you need the experience that you can only get from going to high school with other students.

  6. It is interesting to see the opinion of people who support homeschooling. They will resort to the position that it is the parent's right to decide. Legally I suppose that is correct, but shouldn't it be more intelligent to allow the teenager to decide for him/herself? I understand that a younger child may not have all the information needed to make the best decision, but shouldn't a 15 year old be able to make that decision? In a few years, he/she will be an adult and will have to live with the choice that his/her parent made.

I can accept your argument that homeschooling can be good for elementary school in some rare cases, but at the high school level I think it is pure arrogance on the part of a parent to think they could match the resources of a real high school education.

I think it should be up to you to decide once you're in high school. If your parents don't listen, however, then I guess you will have no choice about your education until you are 18. Maybe you could just refuse to do any work for them. It sounds harsh, but this is your education.

  7. That all depend on WHY you're homeschooled. Talk to your parents, find out the 'why' and you might be able to come up with some arguments to change their minds. Why do you want to go to public school? If it's to goof of with your friend don't expect that to impress your parents!
