How do credit cards work in the UK?

Can I get a credit card for free that doesn't charge me anything, ever, as long as I pay off what I spend on it? If so, can I automatically pay off the card if it gets used so I don't even need to worry about paying it off? Which providers offer this?

  1. They work the same as here in the US.  No credit card provider gives free service.  They are in business to make money too.

  2. All credit card providers.  As long as you payoff your balance EVERY MONTH then you have no interest owed.
