How do criminals on the run make it?

i always see movies or documentaries about an escaped convict or a man on the run who decides to leave the U.S & never come back

but i want to know how do these guys actually get to the otherside of the world.....like the philippines or other asian countries?

i know getting to Mexico or some central & south american countries isnt hard but how do they find ships to take them over seas?

if you know how please tell .....i've alwayz been curious & i wouldnt mind taking a freight line to southeast asia just for the adventure!
