Question:

How do different ground temperatures affect plants?

I need to know for a Botany paper how ground temperatures affect plants. Like the top soil is warmer then the bottom soil usually..but sometimes this varies as well, how come?? Please Help!

  1. As a novice gardener, what I observe indicates that if the ground is cold  ,plants which normally would be growing, are dormant. If there is a warm spell, plants which should be dormant  will sprout and grow. This is especially true with bulb flowers like daffodils, jonquils, tulips,etc. There are vegetables which will grow whether the weather is cold or warm while others require much heat before  they mature.
