let's say you have a 2 wheel drive pick up equipped only with All-Terrain tires...and definitely, there's a chance you might get stuck..or let's say you have a feeling you're about to get stuck, and in order to avoid this, would you speed up/rev up or just slowing it down carefully

please advice..which of those two options has the higher tendency to get stuck and why//

thanks

  1. Well they would both work good but at the same time it would depend on say how deep the mud was.

You can drive slower in the mud and and get farther as long as you keep your speed constant.

I have driven in deep sand with just a 2wd truck and did alot better that some 4wd trucks did just by keeping my momentum steady.

  2. If you rev hard on a low-friction surface then the tyres will spin and you lose all grip....and control.  You must avoid this.

You use a technique called short-shifting... Instead of using first gear, use second.  Instead of second gear, use third etc.

Also it might be worth letting some air out of the tyres, as this increases the tyre's surface area with the ground, improving grip.  However if you do this too much you will damage the sidewalls, so take care.

  3. if in mud and you feel you can make it better by speeding up then yes speed up and go thru but if your not sure then try stop and back up either way you still might get stuck gasing it is better

  4. I would speed up, you already are going to be slowing down once you hit the mudd which is causes resistance on your front tires.I wouldnt necisarly want to reve it, you want to avoid spining out your tires as much as possible.Say if your doing 25mph , and you see the mudd, gradually acelerating to 30-35 mph (so 5-10) should be more than enought to get you threw providing how long the puddle is and yet still maintaining control of your vechicle....Like said before if you slow down, once you hit the mudd the risistance there is going to slow you down even further and your front tires are bound to sink.It all really depends on how compact the mudd is, incline, how deep and how long the area you are driving. If your doing this for offroading purposes go ahead why not try it out, just make sure you have a winch or a buddy to pull you out if you do get stuck.have fun.Good Luck

  5. If your going through mud you want to speed up,going through it slow you'll get stuck..     Been there, done that!!!!!!      Oh yeah, you want to spin the tires in  mud faster because that (cleans) the tires out, otherwise the tread gets stopped up with mud and you get stuck because you have no more traction because you drove through it too slow....
