How do e-tickets work?

ok i printed out a paper and it has my itinerary number and flight number and everything else. So when i go to the airport do i just show the people at the check in and they give me a boarding pass or what? and can you get your boarding pass 2 hrs before you get on the airplane or do u hav to get it 24 hours before?

  1. Yes, an e-ticket you just bring to checkin and they will give you a boarding card. You will not be able to get a boarding card before check-in for your flight opens. International flight checkins usually open 2 hours before takeoff.

    On some flights, if you don't have luggage you need to check in, you can check-in online and you can then print your own boarding card. You can then go straight through security without checking-in. It varies between airlines how long before takeoff you can check-in online.


  2. Leilani's answers is very accurate. I would only add that sometimes you it's not even necessary to show your e-ticket, you can only show your passport to get your boarding pass.
