Question:

How do employers look at your credit when applying for jobs???

Ok, so I made some really bad mistakes on my credit when I was younger, and I have had some collections on my credit. My collections are all paid, but they stay on your credit for 7 years. I applied for a bank job, interviewed, and got a letter in the mail letting me know that I did not get the job because of my credit worthiness. Then a month later I applied at another larger bank, and got the job. The reason I am questioning it now, is I am changing employers to another large bank and they will do a credit check. Should I be worried?? Ive already had a bank job before???

  1. Not in Australia but i don't know about other country's

  2. Different banks may have different standards.  Or it could just be the person viewing the report.

Best thing for you to do, is address those old derogatory items during the interview. That way you can explain that you screwed up but have paid them off.

  3. they can only check you credit if you give them the auhorization in writing.  I f they pulled your credit without your permission, I would file a complaint.

  4. Since you have already been working in a bank then it's not as much an issue.  I'd make sure you had the second job before quitting the first in any event.
