  1. At one time, companies used to label their engineers Engineer, Senior Eng, Lead Eng, Principal Eng. as an example.  The problem is there was no consistency from company to company.  More recently they have switched to Levels from 1 to 6 (in my company anyway).  That way a company at least knows where you fall in the range.  As to the original question, progression is a matter of experience and degrees.  The days of automatic "promotion" for time in grade are pretty much gone.  BS starts at level 1, MS level 2, PhD it depends.  Upward movement is related to job performance, level of responsibility and typically a minimum time in present level and is often handled by a promotion board.  The higher you go, the more people get involved in the promotion.  The highest levels typically require "heroic" performance in a major program.

Bottom line: Ask the same question during your interview

  2. I don't know the there is a standard defintion of the different levels.  In many companies, it is a combination of experience, degree level (BS, Masters, PhD) and promotions based on performance.

  3. i am like u still in the first level then after earring 200 points u will be shifted to anther and so on,u should ask or answer  questions to enter that race, thank u

  4. Is this specific to some country?

I've been in engineering for lots of years, and never heard of it.
