  2. Oestrogen is a steroid hormone and all steroid hormones deliver their message in the same way. They are lipid soluble and so can enter the cell easily, and they have receptors intracellularly inside the nucleus or on the nuclear membrane. They bind with receptors to form a complex that changes gene expression, and eventually protein synthesis. This leads to the observed effects of the hormone.
