How do eyedoctor's measure your eyes?

I recently went to get my eyes checked for contacts and i have to go back in a week to get my eyes measured. (so the contacts fit) my question is how do they measure your eyes? do you just try on different sizes of contacts or do they used a machine to measure them or what?

anybody know?

  1. We use a handheld machine at our office to measure for lenses. That's fairly standard as far as I know...


  2. They use a keratometer, designed to measure the curvature of the cornea. Then convert the numbers into the correct base curve of your contact lens.
