How do find the Social Security benefits that were received , but not taxed?

  1. If they weren't taxed, they may not be listed.

    For SS disability or retirement benefits, use the amount from box 5 of the SSA-1099.

    For SSI, there is no form and it would NEVER be listed on the tax return.


  2. Subtract the amount on 1040 line 20b from the amount on line 20a.
