I have a problem which is sort of as an addiction to me. I always get urges to do it, when deep down in it's just hurting my soul and I shouldn't do it anymore. I want to free myself, and be who I once was.

Help me be free, please offer me a solution to become strong again.

  1. Perhaps you need to identify the location of the problem and act accordingly, like in "If thine eye offend thee, pluck it out," etc, from the Bible.

  2. well i also have a problem with this but i have been getting better with it as i have picked up on my religious side and it seems to have helped me immensely whenever you have the urge is to read your bible when you get the urge to do what ever it is it will definately make it easier for you it. im not saying it will take it away right away but also pray and ask for the willpower to stop what ever it is you are doing

  3. talk to God and ask for willpower and courage to get rid of whatever tempts you.

  4. Sometimes shear willpower isn't enough. You need to take rid yourself of the means of fulfilling your temptation. If it's p**n then you need a parental blocker with a random password you won't remember (for example). You could also get therapy if you need someone to talk to.

  5. addictions are cravings which are the blight on human kind. try attending a place that teaches meditation. I took up tai chi and this helped me soo much. I also went to a counsellor who taught me life lessons ie how to act not React .. this learning enable me to be stronger and no longer feel those cravings

  6. You will not quit until your soul aches so bad at your lack of control that you break down and get help.

Or you will be rational and find a way to do it. Maybe turning around and walking away. Maybe counting to 10. Maybe going outside for air, or a cigarette or whatever.

The ability to stop your mental addiction will become easier and easier. The bars and liquor stores I and my AA friends used to get urges for no longer urge us. We can drive by them and not realize they are there.

But it is a day by day process, and the feelings, the urges, will not quit immediately. Use the Serenity Prayer. It works. But if you are atheist, like me, forget the prayer part of it and conentrate on the 3 principles.

Principled is what you are not. Get principled and your days will go by so much easier.
