How do free to air systems work ie fortec star?

i was just wondering how they work, do they need like a code update or something every month or so or do u just plug it in and play?

They work by harnessing the signal then decoding it.  When companies zap your free to air system what they do is they change the algorithms that are used to decode the signal.  You update your fortec by using a program code downloaded online.  Then your fortec is good to go again.
