How do free websites make a lot of money?Is it advertising?If so,i dont see how because probably very few ?

click on the advertisements.Im asking because i have an idea on a site that i think might get some significant traffic.But i dont want to even bother with it unless i know its going to make a lot of money.

It all comes down to TRAFFIC and CONVERSIONS.

There are only three ways I know of for a website to make money:

1. Sell products or services on the website. This is basically a store website.

2. Have ads on the website and/or affiliate links. The website owner gets paid for each click on the web page or on the ad or affiliate link.

3. Have people pay to use the website, which makes it not free.

You won't know if your site will make money unless you either ask people if what you want to do might make lots of traffic or just try it and see.

There's a dating site online that makes about 1 million every 3 months off Google AdSense.

It's far and few between but there are sites that make money off advertising.
