How is deviance, crime, and social control viewed by the functionalist?

  1. Functionalist believe that everything happens for a reason. Well most sociology groups believe that crime and deviance are a bad thing Functionalist would argue that crime and deviance are needed in society. They believe that crime and deviance are need because:

    rules are needed for a functioning society,

    if everybody conformed nobody would know what the rules are,

    and without rules a society couldn't function properly...


  2. that it can all be handled on the mechanical level. it starts with conditioning and then moves on to operant conditioning -reward and punishment. read ivan pavlov and b f skinner.
